Weekend: Nine Patriots are named to NWOAL first team
HAMLER — Record-setting running back Justin Buenger headed the list of Patrick Henry players earning first-team honors in Northwest Ohio Athletic League all-conference football selections following the 2008 season.

Buenger, a junior who broke both the regular-season and total rushing totals at PH, was joined on the first team offense by junior quarterback Luke George, wide receiver Mitch Leonard, tight end Austin Bower and linemen Mike Gobrogge and Brad Yarnell.

First-team all-NWOAL defensive picks for the Patriots were Central Michigan signee Cody Pettit, end Aaron George and linebacker Brett Petersen.

Second-team all-league players included Xavier Dye and Brian Kline.

Bill Inselmann, who achieved his 150th career win while leading Patrick Henry to its seventh straight league title and seventh consecutive playoff appearance, was named coach of the year.

NWOAL volleyball

BRYAN — A trio of Patrick Henry players were honored as the Northwest Ohio Athletic League released its all-conference volleyball teams for the 2008 season.

Hailey Phillips led the way for the Patriots this season and was a second team all-NWOAL selection. Saige Meyer and Michelle Nickels made the honorable mention list for Patrick Henry.

Evergreen's Kelsey Hicks was named the coach of the year.

First-team selections included Archbold's Emily Snyder and Stacy Wyse, Evergreen's Taylor Langenderfer and Kenzie Pinkelman, Liberty Center's Chelsea Meister and Kaitlyn Rohrs and Swanton's Ashlee Polkington.

Elmwood junior setter LeeAnn Irwin earned second-team honors as the Suburban Lakes League released its all-league volleyball teams for the 2008 season.

Irwin's teammates Amanda Peters and Sam Pollard made the all-SLL honorable mention list. Lakota's Julie Miles, Olivia Frantz, Amy Gosche and Jessica Hoffman were also honorable mention.

Genoa senior middle blocker Alexa Ansell was named the SLL Player of the Year.

Twelve seniors from Elmwood and eight from Lakota made the Suburban Lakes League all-academic team for all fall sports.

Elmwood's honorees were Mitch Auchtmuty, Thor Bottesch, Lewis Stearns, Shannon Stewart and Tanner Tyson in football; Jason Bonham, Ryan Green, Alex Betts and Kaye Bockbrader in cross country; and Chelsie Hosmer, Brooke Rosendale and Samantha Simon in volleyball.

Lakota's honorees were Cody Allison, Josh Dennis, Ronnie Park and Jacob Smith in football, Renee Babcock, Carly Reese and Amanda Welly in cross country and Megan Tyson in volleyball.



NCC volleyball

BUCYRUS — Riverdale was rewarded for winning a share of its second straight North Central Conference volleyball crown by having five players recognized on the all-NCC volleyball teams that were released recently.

Senior standouts Amy Fox and Kayla Brown were first team picks. The duo helped the Falcons fashion a 22-3 record that included a 13-1 mark in the NCC.

Junior Amanda Wetherill and sophomore Ashley Fox made the all-NCC second team for Riverdale. Senior Alex Craft was an honorable mention selection.

Misamore on 2nd team

MOUNT VERNON — Former Findlay High School standout Angie Misamore was named to the American Mideast Conference women's soccer second team for the second straight year.

The junior defender started 16 of the 17 games she played in for the Mount Vernon Nazarene University Lady Cougars.
