Prep Football: Six FHS Trojans on TRAC first team
Joseph Davidson earned first-team honors at two positions and eight Findlay High players were first- or second-team picks in the 2012 Three Rivers Athletic Conference all-league football selections released on Monday.

Davidson was a first-team all-TRAC pick at both defensive back and punter. The 6-foot-7, 202-pound senior, returned two of his five interceptions for touchdowns) broke up 16 passes and had 32 tackles. The BGSU recruit also averaged 37.2 yards per punt this fall.

Also earning first-team all-league honors on defense were linebacker Devin Dennard and defensive back Austin Niswander.

Dennard ended his four-year varsity career as Findlay High's career leader in tackles. The 6-0, 190-pounder had 13 tackles for loss this season and 73 total stops. He also caused four fumbles and blocked two kicks.

Niswander, a University of Toledo recruit, had 30 tackles, broke up 11 passes and recovered two fumbles.

Five of Findlay's all-TRAC selections represented an offense that became the first in school history to average over 50 points a game.

Spearheading that group is record-setting running back Vance Settlemire who established single-season marks for yards (1,934) and TDs (33) and twice tied the school record for touchdowns in a game (6). The 5-10, 180-pound senior also set career rushing marks for yards (3,260) and touchdowns (53).

Settlemire could have put up huge numbers against an easy early schedule, but didn't, compiling just 332 yards in lopsided wins over Cleveland East Tech (2-8), Holy Trinity School from Ontario Canada (4-3) and Lima Senior (0-10).

Settlemire, who rushed for a single-game record 347 yards against Toledo St. Francis, then broke that mark with a 376-yard, 6-touchdown game against Toledo St. John's, did some of his best work against Findlay's toughest opponents, including 221 yards against Division I state finalist Toledo Whitmer, 228 against a 5-5 Oregon Clay team, 209 against arch-rival Fremont Ross and 158 yards and six TDs in a nonleague win over Reynoldsburg (7-3).

Also earning first-team, all-TRAC offensive honors are senior receiver Jimmy Orwick, who led the Trojans with 33 catches for 677 yards and six touchdowns, and freshman kicker Grant McKinniss, who converted 46 of 52 PAT kicks and 3 of 4 field goals, including a 49-yarder that was a yard shy of tying the longest in school history. The freshman also boomed 56 percent of his kickoffs into the end zone for touchbacks.

FHS quarterback Paul Cosiano, who threw for 1,656 yards and 20 touchdowns and added 291 yards and six TDs rushing, and senior lineman Bryce Burnside, a two-year starter at tackle, were second-team all-league on offense.

Seniors Wyatt Krupp, Kory Knox, Kyle St. Jean, Taylor Opp, Derek Gray and Bryton Mathis, junior Eric Beard and sophomore Sam Iliff received honorable mention all-league recognition.

Toledo Whitmer, TRAC champion and Ohio's Division I state runner-up, swept the individual awards with quarterback Nick Holley named TRAC Offensive Player of the Year, linebacker Jack Linch Defensive Player of the Year and Jerry Bell TRAC Coach of the Year.

TRAC all-league selections are not released until all teams have completed tournament play. Whitmer reached the Division I final where the Panthers fell 20-12 to Cincinnati Moeller. Toledo Central Catholic also reached the state final, beating Trotwood-Madison 16-12 for the Division II state championship.
