Holgate's Landon Grim led all scorers with 21 points. The 5-foot-11 senior guard knocked down three of Holgate's six 3-pointers as the Tigers from Henry County raced to leads of 14-5 after one period and 25-10 at the half. Jacob Frost led North Baltimore (0-2) with 13 points. The 6-2 junior, an honorable mention all-District 7 and all-Midland Athletic League pick in 2011-12, also led the Tigers with five rebounds. Well-known for its defensive tenacity under veteran head coach Paul Wayne, 479-310 in 35 years at the school, Holgate limited North Baltimore to just 20 shots. North Baltimore made half of its eight 3-point attempts, but was just 5 of 12 on 2s. Holgate attempted as many 3s (20) as North Baltimore did total shots. WAYSIDE CHRISTIAN 46 HERITAGE CHRISTIAN 34 Wayside Christian used a dominating second quarter to open an 11-point halftime lead and the Warriors cruised from there in posting a 46-34 Buckeye Christian Schools Association win over Heritage Christian on Monday. Rex Lawrence poured in 21 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for Wayside, which used a 16-8 barrage in the second quarter to open a 28-17 lead at the half. Jeff Hamilton added 11 points for the Warriors, who converted just 12 of 29 free throws but still enjoyed a 12-5 advantage from the line. Josiah Long, Lewis Larsen and Andrew VanDenBerghe all scored six points for Heritage Christian. LAKOTA 97 BETTSVILLE 6 KANSAS -- Bettsville managed only a single free throw in each of the first two quarters and Lakota, powered by four double-digit scorers, romped to a 97-6 win over the Bobcats in the Midland Athletic League boys basketball opener for both teams on Monday. Collins Timmons scored 16 points, Nathan Ray 15 and Kody Brewer 12 for Lakota (2-0, 1-0 MAL). All three played little more than a half. Spencer King also had 12 points and 12 players found the scoring column for Lakota, which might have topped the 100-point mark if not for a 3 of 10 effort from the line.
