UF Athletics: Women's soccer team upsets No. 4 Grand Valley State, 3-2
The University of Findlay women's soccer team pulled off a stunning upset of nationally-ranked Grand Valley State on Friday afternoon.

Playing against a fourth-ranked GVSU team that had blanked its last 10 opponents, the Oilers responded to the challenge with a second-half comeback to earn a thrilling 3-2 victory over the Lakers.

UF trailed 1-0 at the half but scored three consecutive goals to take control against GVSU, which has won two of the last three NCAA Division II national championships.

The Oilers have won their last two games and are 4-6-1 overall and are 4-3-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Lakers fell to 10-1-2 overall and to 6-1-1 in the conference, suffering their first GLIAC loss since Sept. 19, 2010 when they lost 1-0 to Northern Michigan in overtime.

Emily Beddoes got the scoring started for the Oilers, punching in a goal just 51 seconds into the second half.

Ann Eichman pushed UF ahead 2-1 less than 10 minutes later and Beddoes finished off the outburst with her second goal of the day.

Kayla Addison and Maria Brown scored goals for the Lakers, who held a 15-8 edge in shots.

Kelsea Corns tallied two saves for the Oilers and Chelsea Parise made three saves for GVSU.

UF will take aim at its third consecutive win on Sunday when it hosts Ferris State (4-4-3, 3-3-2) in a noon GLIAC game.
