Local Sports from The CourierMonday, October 15, 2012Prep football: St. Wendelin drops to 0-5FOSTORIA -- The rematch was just like the original when the Downriver Wolfpack rolled to a 55-14 win over Fostoria St. Wendelin in a rainy matchup at Memorial Stadium on Saturday. Just three weeks ago, the Wolfpack defeated St. Wendelin 53-26. Mitchell Beezeau ran for 228 yards and two touchdowns for the Wolfpack. Quarterback Kyle Johnson ran for 145 yards and a touchdown and completed 3 of 5 passes for 27 yards and another score. For the Mohawks (0-5), Austin Reinhart ran for 101 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries and also returned a kickoff 67 yards for a touchdown. St. Wendelin started the game with 12 players in uniform but ended it with 11 when Trent Whetsel left with an injury in the third quarter. St. Wendelin got on the board when quarterback Reinhart ran 36 yards for a touchdown with 11:10 left in the third period. Backup quarterback Brad Buhrow snuck in for the two-point conversion. After Downriver scored to go ahead 35-8, Reinhart returned the ensuing kickoff 67 yards. Subscribe to The Courier. |
