WILMINGTON -- Ohio Northern had three players score in double figures and no Wilmington player scored beyond 10 points as the Polar Bears beat the Quakers 63-48 Wednesday in Ohio Athletic Conference women's basketball action for their 22nd consecutive win.
Ohio Northern (23-1, 17-0 OAC), ranked fourth in the latest D3hoops.com poll, can complete an undefeated run through the conference with a win over Capital at 3 p.m. on Saturday at the ONU Sports Center.
Katie Mengos led Ohio Northern with 11 points and six rebounds. Cenzie Yoder had 10 points, five rebounds and five assists, while Jordan Kimes added 10 points.
Bria Eslick paced Wilmington (14-10, 10-7) with nine points off of the bench.
Bluffton rips Defiance
BLUFFTON -- The Bluffton men's basketball team surged ahead to a 14-point lead by halftime and Defiance never got within 10 points during the second half as the Beavers blew out the Yellow Jackets 75-55 Wednesday in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play.
Will Pope had game highs of 21 points and eight rebounds to lead Bluffton (11-13, 7-10 HCAC).
Former Arlington standout Thayne Recker was 3 of 3 from the field and 5 of 5 from the free throw line for 11 points and he snared six rebounds off the bench.
Ryan Ebbeskotte dished off 12 assists for the Beavers and Dustin Kinn, a New Riegel graduate, had 10 points.
Logan Wolfrum led Defiance (14-10, 10-7) with 15 points. Former McComb standout Mason Roth had seven points.
ONU men eke out win
ADA -- The Ohio Northern men's basketball team held off a late Wilmington rally and the Polar Bears defeated the Quakers 79-75 Wednesday in Ohio Athletic Conference action.
Branden Rushton had a stellar evening for the Polar Bears (12-12, 8-9 OAC) with team highs of 19 points and seven rebounds.
Lucas Pennington (16 points), Isaiah Roux (11), Jared Horstman (11) and Dominique Royal (10) aided Ohio Northern.
Malcolm Heard II led Wilmington (12-11, 9-8) with 34 points and a game-high 15 rebounds.
Ruffer leads BU romp
BLUFFTON -- The Bluffton women's basketball team held Defiance to just 16 of 61 shooting (26 percent) from the field Wednesday night and the Beavers drilled Defiance 62-47 on senior night in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest at the Sommer Center.
Brooke Ruffer scored 17 points on 7 of 11 shooting for Bluffton (12-12, 7-10 HCAC). Taylor Knight had 11 points and four assists.
Playing in her final game as a Beaver, former New Riegel graduate Lauren Hutton and pulled in a team-high nine rebounds.
Hannah Harshman led Defiance (14-10, 11-6) with 14 points. Kim Bingley, who prepped at Ottawa-Glandorf, had eight points.
Kraus keys BG win
BOWLING GREEN -- A'uston Calhoun scored 24 points and Bowling Green shot 63.6 percent in the second half to defeat Western Michigan 70-60 Wednesday night in a Mid-American Conference game.
Calhoun scored 13 points after halftime, when the Falcons (10-14, 5-6) hit 14 of 22 shots to pull away from a 30-30 halftime tie.
The Broncos (15-9, 7-4) remained tied for the MAC West Division lead because Toledo lost to Buffalo, 75-60.
Bowling Green led 42-40 with 14:18 remaining before a jumper by Luke Kraus of Findlay started a 14-2 Falcons run for a 56-42 lead with 7:07 left.
Crawford finished with 13 points and Chauncey Orr 11 for Bowling Green. Richaun Holmes had eight points and nine rebounds.
Nate Hutcheson and Austin Richie scored 14 each for Western Michigan.
