Girls Basketball: Miller City's Michel reaches 1,000-point plateau in win
MILLER CITY -- Miller City's Missy Michel needed just three points Tuesday to reach 1,000 for her career.

She got that and more, finishing with 18 points as the Wildcats hung on for a 51-47 win over Paulding in nonconference girls basketball action.

Michel dispensed with any drama early, scoring her 1,000th point on a free throw with 4:37 left to play in the first quarter. She also led Miller City (3-15) with 10 rebounds. Brandi Gerschutz added 17 points, 12 of which came on four 3-pointers.

Led by Brooke Combs' 15 points, Paulding (4-12) led by a field goal after the first quarter, but couldn't sustain that momentum as Miller City went on a 16-7 run to go ahead 28-21 at the half.

ELIDA -- Ottoville's defense dominated the first quarter and its offense dominated the second as the No. 1-ranked Big Green jumped ahead early and cruised to a 62-42 nonleague girls basketball win over Elida.

Six-three senior center Abby Siefker, a Bowling Green State University signee, scored 23 points, grabbed 16 rebounds, had a team-high four assists and blocked two shots.

Rachel Beining scored 14 points and Taylor Mangas added 10 as Ottoville, ranked No. 1 among Ohio's Division IV schools, improved to 18-0.

The Big Green have won 42 consecutive regular season games.

Ottoville limited Elida to just four points in the first quarter. Ottoville's offense then fired up in a 25-10 second-quarter burst that gave the Big Breen a 40-14 lead at the half.

Osha Owens led Elida (7-11) with 15 points.

OTTAWA -- Ottawa-Glandorf's second quarter advvantage powered the Titans to a 49-38 victory over Napoleon Tuesday night in a nonconference girls basketball game.

The Titans (12-6) allowed just two points in the second quarter to expand their lead to 28-14.

The victory was the Titans' ninth win in their last 10 games and their fourth straight win at home.

Kristen Miller led the Titans with 14 points. Elissa Ellerbrock scored nine points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.

Courtney Smith led Napoleon (3-14) with eight points and seven rebounds.

KALIDA -- After a slow start Tuesday, Kalida finally found a rhythm in the second period en route to a 61-38 win over Spencerville in nonconference girls basketball.

A total of 12 players scored for Kalida (11-5), which was led by Jackie Gardner's 14 points.

With the score tied 10-10 after the first quarter, Kalida went on a 19-8 run for a 29-18 halftime lead and extended that advantage to 45-28 heading into the final period.

Schylar Miller finished with 16 points for Spencerville (2-15).

FORT JENNINGS -- Ayersville exploded with a 19-4 advantage in the third quarter to pull away from Fort Jennings 54-26 Tuesday night in nonconference girls basketball action.

The Pilots (10-7) committed 25 turnovers, but made 22 of 30 shots (73 percent) from the field.

Megan Schubert scored 15 points to lead Ayersville, while Emily Cromer added 12.

Macy Schroeder and Gabbi German scored six points apiece for Fort Jennings (7-12), which made only one of 17 3-pointers and shot a frigid 18 percent (9 of 49) from the floor.
