Mihalik Answers Carryover Balance QuestionsMonday, February 18, 2013 - 11:37 AM The revelation that Findlay had an additional $2.2 million dollars in its carryover balance at the end of last year caught some off guard last week. While the news the city is doing better financially has been well received, many residents have asked how the estimates could have been off by so much. Findlay Mayor Lydia Mihalik appeared on WFINat10 today and said projections during the second half of 2012 still showed lower tax revenues for the city... (Audio Below) Mihalik adds steps will be taken in order to avoid such big swings in projections in the future... (Audio Below) That part of the strategic plan will be completed late this quarter or early in the second quarter. $1.5 million of the money left over from 2012 has been designated for capital improvements like street repair. Some have asked why the money isn't being used to prevent the layoff of firefighters... (Audio Below) Mihalik says that if it can be shown that revenues will be consistently higher for the city, that's when the discussion should start on bringing the police and fire departments up to higher staffing levels.
