Staschiak Explains City's Budget Carryover Balance

The city of Findlay ended 2012 with more money than expected. Auditor Jim Staschiak talked about the reasons why with Chris Oaks on Good Mornings this morning identifying two major areas..

Staschiak saying that departmental operating budgets returned $1.6 million to the general fund while capital improvement projects returned $1.2 million in 2012. Staschiak said practices must be put in place to avoid large carryovers..

Staschiak said that a minimum carryover balance of $3 million is needed. As it stands now the city still has twice that amount after appropriating $2.1 million to the self insurance and severance funds and capital improvements.
