Firefighters Local 381 Wants Dialog With City

While Findlay City Council anticipated a quick transfer of part of the larger than expected carryover balance from 2012 to shore up areas in the 2013 budget, Scott McWilliams from Firefighters Local 381 asked council to reconsider the measure, particularly the transfer of $1.5 million to capital improvements..

While members of council and the administration agreed the closure of Fire Station # 4 and the layoff of twenty firefighters was probably inevitable, council did not pass the ordinance on emergency as planned but only gave it its first reading. Findlay Mayor Lydia Mihalik said the carryover is not new money and is probably not sustainable to avoid the layoffs in the Fire Department..
