Another invasive insect threatens Northwest Ohio trees. The Daily Chief Union reports Wyandot County Health District officials, attending a meeting in Marion, learned that the gypsy moth has made its way into Wyandot County. In its caterpillar stage the gypsy moth attacks more than 300 types of trees and shrubs with oak trees being the preferred species. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources uses suppression, slow-the-spread, and eradication programs to control the insect. There are currently 51 counties in Ohio under gypsy moth quarantined including Seneca, Marion and Crawford Counties in our area.
