Rivers Running High, Flooding Not Expected

Thursday, February 28, 2013 - 5:32 AM

It rained quite a bit over the last couple days, so those of us who live or work near the Blanchard River are once again keeping an eye on water levels. The good news is it doesn't appear the river will even hit the action stage in Findlay. The Blanchard started leveling off at just under 7 feet early this morning. Action stage starts at 8 feet.

It's a bit of a different story downstream in Ottawa. The river is in the action stage there, but appears to be cresting. The Blanchard rose faster than expected, hitting the action stage more than 12 hours than National Weather Service estimates had suggested.

Other area rivers are running high as well. The Sandusky River in Tiffin is in the action stage but is not expected to get near flood stage. The Portage River in Wood County is currently in minor flood stage, and is not expected to fall back within its banks until tomorrow morning.
