Organic food versus traditionally farmed food - it's a debate that typically includes no middle ground.  However Hancock County Extension Educator Ed Lentz says no matter which you choose, for the most part what you're getting is going to be safe... (Audio Below)

Lentz says that when the USDA and FDA approve foods, they look at numerous peer review studies to determine if something is safe.

That doesn't mean there aren't misconceptions about one food source versus another.  Lentz says people were caught off guard by a recent outbreak of E. Coli in organic spinach... (Audio Below)

Lentz says food can never be completely guaranteed to be safe 100% of the time no matter how it is grown or raised.  He adds what's important is that when an outbreak happens officials are able to find the source and correct the problem.
